Traffic jam: commuters in Bengaluru abandon vehicles and walk home

Bengaluru: Thousands of commuters were stranded on Wednesday night in the city from a massive traffic jam triggered by heavy rains, India Today reported.

Many commuters including tech professionals abandoned their cars and walked home as the traffic jam on the Electronic City flyover continued for hours.

Footage on social media showed people getting off their vehicles and walking back home.

Following waterlogging on the roads, the Bengaluru Traffic Police closed one side of the Electronic City flyover to stop congestion.

Though waterlogging receded in most areas by morning, places including Kendriya Vihar Apartments in Yelahanka continued to face the situation.

Many commuters took to social media to express their frustrations, asking why the Karnataka government’s advice to private companies to allow work from home was not followed.

Somebody on social media reported being stuck on the Electronic City flyover for 1.5 hours.

Many employees, who left their work at 5.20 pm, began walking as the situation continued for hours.

Commuters wondered if the city could ever effectively manage its traffic woes, especially during heavy rains.
