Top Maoist leader arrested in Jharkhand

Jharkhand police have moved forward a step in their struggle against Maoist insurgents in the region by arresting top CPI (Maoist) leader and politburo member Prashant Bose and his wife Sheela Marandi in the Seraikela-Tata road in Jharkand on Friday.

Prashant Bose aka Kishore Da hails from West Bengal and is accused of spearheading Maoist activities in states ranging from Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Orissa for which he has a bounty of 1 crore on his head. He has been at the top of the list for police in these states who have been pursuing him for four decades.

The Maoist leader has allegedly been taken to Ranchi for interrogation according to reports as police are remaining tight-lipped about the issue. Intelligence tip-offs led to the police and security forces managing to corner Bose and his wife as they travelled by car along the main road.

Bose's arrest follows that of Naxalite Commander Maharaj Pramanik who was arrested from Ichagarh in Seraikela about two months ago. Police recovered a stache of weapons ranging from guns to IUDs in various areas.
