Kolkata: In a significant move ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Tapas Roy, a senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, announced his resignation as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), citing dissatisfaction with the party's functioning.
Expressing his decision, Roy stated, "I have submitted my resignation as an MLA to the assembly speaker. I am now a free bird."
Roy, addressing the media, criticized the TMC leadership for failing to support him during an Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid at his residence in January.
This development signals a shift in dynamics within the TMC and raises questions about internal cohesion as the political landscape evolves in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.
