Tipu Jayanti: Prohibitory orders clamped in Karnataka’s Srirangapatna

Mandya: Karnataka Police on Friday said that prohibitory orders have been imposed in Srirangapatna taluk in Mandya district in view of Tipu Sultan Jayanti celebrations.

According to police, the action was taken as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incidents during the celebrations.

Section 144 of the CrPC which prohibits assembly of four or more persons has been clamped on the occasion like every year since it is a sensitive area, a senior police officer said.

The orders are in effect from 6 am to 11 pm. There will be restrictions on processions, protests and rallies during this time.

The order has also put a ban on wearing t-shirts with objectionable photos, slogans, bursting of crackers and use of loudspeakers.

For the celebration, Muslim organisations and Tipu Sultan fans are expected to arrive from various cities and gather in Srirangapatna town, where the 18th-century ruler of the erstwhile Mysuru kingdom was buried.

The celebration of Tipu Jayanti was banned by Yediyurappa-led BJP government in 2019.
