In a morning encounter on Sunday, security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district engaged and killed three Maoists during an anti-Naxalite operation.
The incident occurred around 8 am on a hill between Bhomra-Hurtarai villages under the Koyalibeda police station area.
Kanker Superintendent of Police, Indira Kalyan Elesela, reported that security forces had received intelligence about the presence of Maoists affiliated with company no. 5 in Bhomra, Hurtarai, and Michchebeda villages. In response, a joint team comprising the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the 30th battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) was dispatched to the area on Saturday night.
During the operation, a gunfight ensued, leading to the Maoists fleeing the scene after a brief exchange of fire. Subsequently, three Maoist bodies were discovered at the site, along with muzzle-loading guns. Additionally, items of daily use and materials related to Maoist activities were seized.
The authorities are yet to determine the identities of the deceased Maoists.
