Shimla: Three Independent MLAs in Himachal Pradesh, known to have close ties with the BJP, have submitted their resignations to the Himachal Vidhan Sabha Secretary Yashpal Sharma.
Their decision to resign comes in the wake of their support for the BJP candidate in the recent Rajya Sabha elections, where they aligned with six rebel Congress legislators.
The trio of Independent MLAs, namely Hoshyar Singh, Ashish Sharma, and K L Thakur, formally presented their resignations in the presence of former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Jairam Thakur.
Addressing the media outside the Vidhan Sabha, Ashish Sharma highlighted the alleged vendetta politics initiated by CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, citing false FIRs lodged against their family members. Sharma expressed their willingness to rejoin the BJP, emphasizing their alignment with the party's development-oriented vision under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. He further indicated that their candidature for the upcoming elections would be determined by BJP leadership.
Following the submission of their resignations, the three MLAs proceeded to meet the Governor at Raj Bhavan.
Hoshyar Singh, Ashish Sharma, and K L Thakur represent the Dehra, Hamirpur, and Nalagarh Assembly seats.
The vacancies resulting from the resignations are expected to be filled through by-polls, which are scheduled to coincide with the Lok Sabha elections on June 1. The counting of votes for both elections is slated for June 4.
