Though lost, Tejashwi Yadav's RJD got more vote share than BJP: report

New Delhi: Even as the Rashtriya Janata Dal is reeling from the drubbing in Bihar polls, the party emerges as the single largest in terms of vote share, according to India Today.

In the thick of NDA’s overwhelming victory, RJD secured 23 per cent of the vote share, suggesting it is still popular in the state. The party won just 25 seats of the 143 seats it contested.

Tejashwi Yadav, the party’s major face in the polls, drew enormous crowds during campaign thus effectively taking over the reins from Lalu Prasad Yadav.

However, the flipside is he was unable to translate rallies heaving with people to seats.

RJD’s 23 per cent of the vote share however marks a slight dip from the 23.11 per cent vote share it received in the 2020 polls; RJD emerged as the single largest with 75 seats in 2020.

It is reported that around 1.15 crore (1,15,46,055) people voted for RJD in the recent Assembly polls, while 1,00,81,143 people voted for the BJP.

The picture is all the more clear considering the percentage of votes that others received in the state.

Though the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 89 seats, it bagged 20.08 per cent of the votes, up from the 19.46 per cent in 2020.

The BJP's ally, Nitish Kumar's JD(U) got 85 seats of the 101 it contested while garnering a vote share of 19.25 per cent with a total 96,67,118 votes, marking a rise in vote share from 15.39 per cent in 2020.

Nitish Kumar’s achievement is significant considering the possibilities of years of anti-incumbency.

The NDA's combined vote share is around 46-47 per cent, while Mahagathbandhan allies managed 35.89 per cent of the votes after the poor performance of Congress and the Left parties.
