New Delhi: A brand-new Mahindra Thar raced out of the showroom in Delhi as the new owner was ritually squeezing a lemon under car tyre, NDTV reported.
The 29-year-old Maani Pawar wanted to take her new car out of the showroom with an auspicious squeezing of the lemon, which went wrong on Monday evening.
While driving over the lemon, Pawar accidentally pressed the accelerator, sending the vehicle off the showroom's first floor.
Maani Pawar arrived at the Mahindra showroom in Delhi's Nirman Vihar to receive her brand-new Thar, worth Rs 27 lakh.
Pawar decided to give the car a ritualistic initiation placing a lemon in front of the wheel of Thar stationed on the first floor of the showroom.
Where Pawar had to drive slowly, just enough to squeeze the lemon under the car's tyre she mistakenly pressed the accelerator.
Pawar and a showroom employee identified as Vikas were in the car when it flew out breaking store window panes, plunging onto the pavement.
A video of the incident showed the upturned car on the road below the showroom with airbags opened.
The victims were rushed to the nearby hospital and were discharged after first aid.
‘On Monday at about 6.08 pm, the medico-legal case (MLC) of Maani Pawar, resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad, was received from Malik Hospital in Nirman Vihar. On enquiry, it was found that Maani and her husband Pradeep purchased a Thar Rox car from a Mahindra Showroom situated at Nirman Vihar,’ Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania reportedly said.
