Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police has been suspended for violating the model code of conduct by meeting the state Congress chief Revanth Reddy as the vote counting was underway on Sunday.
Anjani Kumar and two other senior police officials met Reddy at his residence in Hyderabad and the top cop was seen in visuals handing a bouquet to the leader, NDTV reported citing sources in the election commission.
The officials have been asked to submit an explanation for their meeting with the party chief.
The EC sources said that DGP’s meeting with a candidates clearly suggested ‘mala fide intention of seeking favour’, according to the report.
The Congress effectively blocked the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) from returning to power for the third time.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi, now renamed as Bharat Rashtra Samithi had led a movement for a separate state, has ruled the state since 2014 after the state was carved out of Andhra Pradesh.
The Congress outshined the ruling party gaining 64 out of the 119 seats reducing BRS to 40 seats.
