Technology is becoming a driver of economy, says Goa IT minister

Panaji: Goa's tourism and IT minister Rohan Khaunte said that technology is becoming a driver of the economy and the state has taken several initiatives to boost the tech industry. He was talking about the steps the Goa government has taken to increase employment.

"Several new start-ups have been certified in the state and have been given financial assistance and it was a proud moment for the state to see the ideas of these start-ups fructify," he added.

Khaunte said they are also taking steps to welcome industries like animation that will generate revenue for the state and create employment.

The minister said that the workforce needs to upskill if the government is to create employment. "We should have a wholesome education system. Introduction of the new National Education Policy (NEP) would revamp the education system giving students wider options to choose from as their study discipline which in turn would give more opportunities for them in future."

He further said tourism is a major contributor to the GDP. "Government has introduced ease of doing business and online services which have resulted in less paperwork and made Goa attain an investor-friendly approach."

The politician added that his government is working on promoting eco-tourism.
