New Delhi: Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were disrupted on Friday morning due to a technical fault in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, resulting in delays of over 30 minutes on several flights.
The glitch affected both arrivals and departures for a brief period, leading to congestion at boarding gates. Passengers were advised to remain patient as technical teams worked to resolve the issue. “Operations are expected to return to normal soon,” Air India crew informed travellers.
A passenger aboard an Air India flight told IANS that their aircraft had been waiting on the runway for more than half an hour, with the crew attributing the delay to the ATC malfunction. No official statement has yet been issued by the airlines.
The disruption comes just two days after airport authorities declared that operations had stabilised following a similar technical issue earlier in the week. On Wednesday, Delhi airport posted an update stating, “Be aware that all operations are back to normal, and passengers can proceed with their travel plans as usual.”
Earlier in the week, the airport had acknowledged disruptions in check-in processes for some airlines due to a technical fault. “We are actively coordinating with all stakeholders to minimize delays and restore normal operations as quickly as possible,” the statement read.
Air India also issued a post on X on Wednesday, confirming that a third-party connectivity issue had impacted check-in systems at several airports. “The system has since been restored. However, some of our flights may continue to be delayed for some time as the situation normalises progressively,” the airline said.
