Chennai: In a heartwarming gesture, a woman in Tamil Nadu has donated a piece of land valued at Rs 4 crore for the expansion of a government school in memory of her late daughter.
The woman, known as Pooranam or Aayi Ammal, wishes the school to bear her daughter's name, who passed away two years ago.
Officials have appraised the current market value of the donated land to be over Rs 7 crore.
Chief Minister MK Stalin has commended Pooranam's benevolent act and announced that she will receive a special award on Republic Day in recognition of her contribution.
"Thousands of students will benefit from Ayi Puranam Ammal's donation. Ayi Ammal, who is a symbol of the Tamil community that values education and teaching as the highest virtue, will be honoured with a special award from the Chief Minister on behalf of the government on the upcoming Republic Day," expressed CM Stalin on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Madurai MP Su Venkatesan met Pooranam at the bank where she works, expressing his appreciation for her generous act. He also shared a video of his visit on X.
Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has pledged to honor Pooranam at the Parent Teacher Association regional conference in Madurai on January 29. This acknowledgment reflects the widespread recognition of Pooranam's selfless contribution to the betterment of education in the region.
