New Delhi: A Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) flight from Delhi to Zurich aborted takeoff from Indira Gandhi International Airport in the early hours of Sunday after an engine problem, injuring six passengers who were evacuated using emergency slides.
Flight LX147, an Airbus A330 (HB-JHK) carrying 228 passengers, four infants and crew, was accelerating on runway 28 around 1:08 am when the crew rejected takeoff and initiated a precautionary evacuation.
The airline stated: "SWISS technical specialists will travel to Delhi to inspect the aircraft and initiate the next steps. At the same time, we are working intensively to find swift and suitable onward travel solutions for all passengers." Six passengers sustained injuries during the process and are receiving treatment at Medanta hospital; the crew remained unharmed.
For those unable to use slides, stairs were provided. SWISS has formed a task force, with technical specialists en route to Delhi to inspect the aircraft and determine the cause.
Passengers are being assisted on-site with re-bookings, hotel stays and contact cards for follow-up. "Such a situation is stressful for everyone involved. Our local teams are taking care of our passengers on site," the airline added.
