Supporting terror groups: BJP as Congress supports Palestine

New Delhi: The Congress party passed a resolution during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Monday, extending its support to the rights of Palestinian people while calling for an immediate ceasefire and negotiations.

The resolution expressed the party’s “dismay and anguish” on the war that has broken out in the Middle East.

“The CWC reiterates its long-standing support for the rights of the Palestinian people to land, self-government and to live with dignity and respect," the resolution said.

Later taking to X, Congress communication head Jairam Ramesh said violence of any type has never provided a solution.

"The Indian National Congress condemns the brutal attacks on the people of Israel. The Indian National Congress has always believed that the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people for a life of self-respect, equality and dignity must be fulfilled only through a process of dialogue and negotiations while ensuring the legitimate national security interests of the Israeli people,” Ramesh said.

However, the BJP on Monday accused the Congress of supporting terror organisations after the CWC affirmed its support for the rights of the Palestinian people.

In a post on X, Union minister Pralhad Joshi asked how will Congress protect the nation and its citizens when it is "openly standing with violence".

"Congress at it again! Supporting terror organisations and terrorism while innocent civilians lose their lives to bullets," he said.

"With this stand, the leading party of I.N.D.I Alliance has exposed itself to the nation. How will the party protect its nation and citizens when it is openly standing with violence," Joshi added.

Israel witnessed a surprise and unprecedented attack by Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, in its southern parts on Saturday morning.

More than 700 people, including soldiers, have been killed and more than 2,100 injured in Israel, while nearly 500 died and over 2, 000 were injured in the Gaza strip in Israel’s counterattack.
