Kolkata: Kolkata Police arrested a student for publishing a provocative post on social media against West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
The accused Kirti Sharma who is a second year BCom student in a post on Instagram called for assassinating Mamata Banerjee.
Sharma, operating from the handle "kirtisocial", is accused of encouraging others to assassinate Banjerjee.
The accused, according to the police, allegedly disclosed the identity and photo of the Kolkata rape-murder victim.
The 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was found raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
The Kolkata Police in a statement said: "A complaint was received regarding the accused person, having the Instagram ID 'kirtisocial,' who uploaded three Instagram stories related to the recent incident at RG Kar Hospital. The posts disclosed the picture and identity of the victim, which is highly offensive in nature. Additionally, the accused shared two stories containing offensive comments and life threats against the Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal. These comments are provocative and may create social unrest and promote hatred among communities."
Meanwhile the Kolkata Police started crackdown on social media posts linked to rape-murder case.
Also, the police issued summons to Trinamool MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray for having demanded CBI probe against the Kolkata police commissioner.
Summons were issued to BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and two doctors for allegedly spreading rumours alongside revealing the identity of the victim.
