Six policemen arrested in connection with death of Kanpur businessman

The sixth and final suspect in the death of a Kanpur businessman Manish Gupta has been nabbed from Gorakhpur by UP police. The six suspects in the case are all policemen who allegedly caused the death of Mr.Gupta during a raid in which the six accused burst into the hotel room where he was staying with friends and assaulted him.

"Acting on a tip-off, police on Saturday at around 12.40 pm arrested accused person Vijay Yadav (32), a resident of Jaunpur, from near the Railway Museum in Gorakhpur. He is the sixth accused person in the case, and with his arrest, all the six accused persons named in the case have been arrested," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said in a statement, as quoted by India Today.

The incident, which occured September 28, has raised protest against the Uttar Pradesh government with many accusing Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of inaction. Opposition leaders took up the case as the UP Police immediately suspended all six individuals and arrests began on October 10. The Kanpur police had announced a reward of ₹25,000 for information leading to the arrests of the assailants who had gone into hiding.

The autopsy report of Mr.Gupta allegedly shows serious injuries, including cuts, bruises and a blow to the head. The family of Manish Gupta has also released a video in which two men, identified as Gorakhpur district magistrate Vijay Kiran Anand and police chief Vipin Tada, can be seen trying to dissuade the family from filing a court case.
