Shiv Sena seeks action against Owaisi brothers over divisive speeches

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena has called for immediate action against Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), and his brother Akbaruddin Owaisi, accusing them of making inflammatory speeches that incite violence and disturb public peace. In a formal complaint addressed to the Maharashtra Chief Election Officer and the Mumbai Police Commissioner, Shiv Sena's social media in-charge Rahool Kanal claimed the Owaisi brothers’ recent remarks at a public meeting in Solapur were harmful to communal harmony.

Kanal asserted that the speeches made by the Owaisi brothers promoted enmity and division along religious lines, inciting violence and hurting the sentiments of various communities in Maharashtra. He alleged that the content of the speeches violated the Bombay Police Act, specifically Sections 196 and 61, as well as relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, concerning the spread of inflammatory material. Kanal further stated that the speeches posed a serious threat to public order and safety, emphasizing the criminal nature of the content as it aimed to disrupt communal peace and incite unrest within society.

The Shiv Sena leader demanded that an FIR be filed against the Owaisi brothers, along with a comprehensive investigation into the authenticity and distribution of the video containing the controversial speeches. Kanal urged the authorities to take appropriate legal action to hold the duo accountable and prevent future instances of similar conduct, ensuring the protection of communal harmony in the state.
