Shiv Nadar leads India’s top ten donors in Hurun Philanthropy List 2025

New Delhi: India’s wealthiest families have donated Rs 10,380 crore in FY25, marking 85% rise in contributions to philanthropy over the past three years, according to the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025.

The country’s top 191 philanthropists including 12 first-time entrants have enriched the growing culture of large-scale giving, with Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL Technologies and his family becoming the top donors shelling out annual donations worth Rs 2,708 crore, The Indian Express reported.

Thus topping the list as India’s Most Generous, Shiv Nadar and his family primarily focused on initiatives in education and social development.

The top 25 donors in the list alone shelled out Rs 50,000 crore over three years, averaging Rs 46 crore per day.

Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries is in the second place donating Rs 626 crore with the company’s CSR spending standing at Rs 1,309 crore, exceeding the mandated amount by Rs 261 crore.

The UNM Foundation’s Sudhir Mehta and Samir Mehta is now among the top 10 donors climbing nine places thus ranking ninth in the list, having donated worth Rs 189 crore.

This jump in their donations marks a 69% rise from the last year.

India’s most generous woman philanthropist, Rohini Nilekani is ranked at eight position in the top 10 after contributing Rs 204 crore this year to support social innovation and systemic transformation through Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies.

Having donated Rs 147 crore, Nikhil and Nithin Kamath of Zerodha have become the youngest to enter the list.
