New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor posted on platform X a photograph of himself with Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal days after stating that he has other ‘options’ if his party does not need his services.
Tharoor was seen standing with Piyush Goyal and British Secretary of State for Trade Jonathan Reynolds following a discussion on the India-UK trade deal, according to NDTV.
‘Good to exchange words with Jonathan Reynolds, Britain's Secretary of State for Business and Trade, in the company of his Indian counterpart, Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal. The long-stalled FTA negotiations have been revived, which is most welcome,’ Tharoor wrote.
Tharoor has locked horns with his party after he praised Kerala’s ruling LDF for its entrepreneurial growth and PM Modi’s negotiation with the US President Trump.
The grand old party’s Kerala mouthpiece Veekshanam Daily came down heavily on the Thiruvananthapuram MP saying that it is ‘suicidal’ to weaken the Congress from within.
Tharoor previously published an article in an English daily praising the state government’s policies focusing on development.
As the controversy snowballed, he claimed that he was highlighting Kerala’s progress in startup sector, not praising the CPM.
After President Trump termed PM Modi ‘much tougher negotiator’, Tharoor reportedly said ‘To hear a man like Donald Trump, whose Defence Secretary called him 'the greatest negotiator in the world', announcing the Indian Prime Minister is a better negotiator... that sounds like something Mr Modi can put in the bank, that sounds very good.’
When he was asked whether ‘all is well between you and the party’, Tharoor responded to media on Sunday saying ‘no comments at all’.
