In a recent operation, seven Bangladeshi nationals who illegally crossed into India were apprehended by residents of Boldamgre village in Meghalaya's South West Garo Hills district.
Local villagers, working alongside the police, detained the individuals on Monday and handed them over to authorities.
During the capture, various items, including a Bangladeshi passport, currency notes, mobile phones, and Bangladeshi SIM cards, were recovered from the group.
The arrests are part of a joint security initiative by the district police and the Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh border, aiming to enhance vigilance with the help of local residents. Villagers have been encouraged to report any unusual activity in the area, contributing significantly to border security.
A case concerning the recent arrests has been registered at the Mahendraganj police station in South West Garo Hills.
This incident follows previous apprehensions of Bangladeshi nationals in the area.
On September 27, authorities arrested ten Bangladeshi nationals traveling in an autorickshaw near Boirakupi, Zikzak, based on intelligence inputs. A separate operation on October 8 led to the arrest of another Bangladeshi national in Mahendraganj’s Bakdagre area, though a second individual managed to escape under cover of darkness. In this case, both the Bangladeshi national and a local resident providing temporary shelter were detained for further investigation.
