Senior TV journalist Rajat Sharma approaches Delhi Police for security after getting 'threat calls'

New Delhi: Senior journalist and chairman and editor-in-chief of a private news channel, Rajat Sharma has approached the Delhi Police requesting to provide security to him after allegedly receiving threat calls from unknown people, as per The Indian Express report.

As per IE, the Special Cell of Delhi Police swung into action after getting the request from the veteran journalist and conducted a threat assessment, and sent the report to the security wing of the Capital's police department.

The HR department of the private news channel approached the Delhi Police after they received a call on their official number from an unknown caller who threatened to eliminate Sharma.

As per a police source, the channel in its complaint mentioned the threatening calls and also informed that a few days after the threat calls, four unknown men came in a car outside Sharma's residence in Greater Kailash in South Delhi and asked his security guard about his daily routine.

Legal advisor of the private channel, Ritika Talwar said, "Rajat Sharma had taken private security for many years. But after the recent threat calls, security experts have advised us to take the help of the police. Sharma's security is of serious concern to us and we would not like to discuss threats or security arrangements in public."

Earlier in 2012, Sharma had lodged an FIR with the Delhi Police after he received a number of threatening calls and messages from unknown people. He alleged that he started receiving threatening calls and messages after his channel telecast a program during which the claims of a self-proclaimed godman were questioned.

Sharma has allegedly got threatening calls and text messages from close to thirty-five mobile numbers. A case was registered under sections of the Information Technology Act at the Greater Kailash police station.
