SC's vacation benches will be hybrid: CJI Jus Chandrachud

New Delhi: To enable lawyers from various destinations to appear before the court, the vacation benches will conduct hearings through hybrid mode, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said on Tuesday, PTI reported.

He said that the benches would take up fresh matters too.

The top court is closing for summer break from May 22 to July 2, when only vacation benches will hear matters that are of urgency.

On Tuesday, the CJI briefed that vacation benches will take up fresh matters allowing a hybrid mode of hearing. Lawyers from various parts of the country appear physically or via video-conferencing.

"In case someone wants to go and argue from somewhere more convenient, you are most welcome... there is only one precondition that the lawyers should be properly dressed," the bench, which also included justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala, informed.

The CJI then said that there are more than 300 matters waiting to be heard, and all are listed for the vacation benches. "My brothers who are sitting in the vacation benches have sportingly agreed to hear fresh matters in vacations," he said.
