Schools directed to screen film inspired by Modi’s childhood from Sep 16 to Oct 2

The Union government has instructed schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, and the Navodaya Vidyalayas Samiti to screen Chalo Jeete Hain, a movie based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s childhood, the Hindu reported.

The Ministry of Education, in a letter dated September 11, asked these school bodies to ensure the film originally released in 2018, is shown between September 16 and October 2. The order came just a week before the prime minister’s birthday on September 17, Scroll.in reported.

The ministry stated that the film could encourage students to think about values such as character, service, and responsibility. It also suggested that the screening might be useful as a case study in moral reasoning, while contributing to social-emotional learning by fostering empathy, self-reflection, critical thinking, and inspiration.

The Indian Express reported that the ministry’s letter also referred to an experiential learning initiative called Prerana. The programme is conducted at the historic Vernacular School of Vadnagar in Gujarat, founded in 1888, which was also where Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his education.

The letter explained that Prerana includes storytelling, value-based activities, indigenous games, and audio-visual methods. Film screenings are a key element of the programme, described as a way to illustrate abstract values, life stories, historical settings, ethical dilemmas, and emotions in a more relatable manner.

According to the communication, Chalo Jeete Hain is regularly shown as part of Prerana. The ministry noted that the film had already made a strong impact on participants, influencing their attitudes and actions, The Hindu reported.
