The Chief Justice of India, UU Lalit while dealing with listing of matter concerning copyrights on youtube on Monday announced that Supreme Court shall have its own platform for the purpose of Live-Streaming of proceedings.
The counsel sought the urgent listing of the petition filed in that regard.
"These are the initial stages, we'll have our own platform", CJI Lalit said while posting the petition on October 17.
This means anyone can watch the proceedings in cases such as challenges to the Citizenship Amendment Act and the revocation of special status under Article 370 to Jammu and Kashmir.
The Constituton Bench hearings are likely to be live streamed from tomorrow.
This is yet another major decision by CJI Lalit after introducing reforms in 'Listing of Matters'. He presided over a full-court meeting that unanimousy voted yes for the decision to live-stream.
Four years ago, on September 26, 2018, the Supreme Court in the Swapnil Tripathi case, had accepted in principle the idea of live-streaming cases of public importance. However, the live-streaming of hearings is yet to be implemented. On August 26, the proceedings before the ceremonial bench of CJI NV Ramana on his retirement day were live-streamted to the public. That remains so far the only instance of the court proceedings being live streamed. Last week, the Supreme Court decided to start live-streaming of the Constitution Bench hearings from September 27.
