New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the interim anticipatory bail granted to Malayalam actor Siddique by two weeks in a rape case, LiveLaw reported.
The case was registered against the actor based on allegations by a young actress.
Meanwhile, Senior Advocate Ranjit Kumar, representing Kerala, sought to dismiss the plea saying that the actor was not cooperating with the investigation into the rape case, The Indian Express reported.
Advocate Ranjit Kumar said ‘When he is coming (for investigation), he comes with a prepared statement that he won’t answer anything more and that he can’t recollect. Also, after FIR, he has closed his Facebook account. He does not want us to get access to that. We have to approach third parties to access’.
The apex court granted interim bail to the actor on September 29 after he approached the court in the wake of the Kerala High Court’s rejection of his plea for anticipatory bail.
It is reported that Siddique appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) twice.
Following the release of the Justice Hema Commission report several women in the movie industry came out with allegations of sexual assault against many prominent actors, leading to major controversy in the state.
