Mumbai: Bollywood actor Salman Khan has sought an apology from the news agency Asian News International and the legal representative of two persons booked for firing a gun outside his home in April, Scroll reported citing Live Law on Thursday.
The actor was responding to an allegedly defamatory article that the news agency ran on September 4, which was syndicated for other news organisations.
Khan in the legal notice objected to the article, which included an interview of advocate Amit Mishra representing two accused persons in the firing case: Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal.
Khan accused ANI of spreading false and defamatory information about him by publishing and distributing Mishra’s interview, and termed allegations “misguided and misconceived”.
Live Law quoted Khan denying all the allegations, alongside saying they are ‘absolutely false, baseless, malicious, grossly defamatory, misleading, damaging’.
It further said quoting the notice that the ‘allegations’ were ‘made with an intent to malign the image and goodwill of our client before the public at large’.
The legal notice further termed Mishra’s allegations a criminal offence under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita alongside qualifying as a ‘civil act of tortuous wrong and defamation’.
Seeking an unconditional apology from ANI and Mishra within 48 hours, the actor asked the news agency to remove the article from its website.
