Chennai: The RSS announced that it has decided to cancel the proposed road march across Tamil Nadu tomorrow. The decision comes a day after the Madras High Court granted the organisation permission to hold the march only in compounded premises like stadiums.
The right-wing Hindu organisation called the High Court's order "unacceptable." As per the court order, only 44 places in the state can be used for the march. The state government had earlier granted permission in only three of the 50 suggested places. The order said RSS can conduct the march peacefully or face consequences.
The court denied permission for the march in six communally sensitive places following the intelligence inputs. Coimbatore, Pollachi, and Nagercoil are among the communally sensitive places. Coimbatore saw a car explosion before Diwali and the case is being investigated by the NIA.
The outfit will be appealing against the order. "Route marches happen in the open in Kashmir, West Bengal, Kerala & other places. We are not holding our Tamil Nadu route marches on November 6th. We will appeal," reported NDTV.
The court granted permission on October 2. But the Tamil Nadu government had cited law and order concerns earlier last month after the ban on the PFI. Following this, the RSS moved a contempt plea. The state's Director General of Police (DGP) asked Superintendents of Police (SP) and Police Commissioners to grant permission subject to the situation of each area.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal, an ally of the ruling DMK, also approached the court seeking permission to hold a human chain for peace on Sunday.
