Rs 75 coin to be launched to mark new parliament building's opening

New Delhi: A new Rs 75 coin will be launched at the inauguration of the new parliament building to commemorate the occasion.

The Ministry of Finance on Thursday said that one side of the coin will have the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar with 'Satyamev Jayate' written under it. On the left side, the word 'Bharat' will be written in Devanagari script. On the right, the word 'India' will be written in English. Below the symbol, the rupee symbol and the denomination value of 75 in international numerals will be written.

The other side of the coin will have an image of the new parliament complex with the words 'Sansad Sankul' written in Devanagari script on the upper periphery. The words 'Parliament Complex' will be written in English on the lower periphery.

The circular-shaped coin will have a diameter of 44 millimetres and 200 serrations along its edges. The 35-gram coin will be made from a four-part alloy, which includes 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, and 5% zinc.

The building is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday and at least 20 opposition parties have declared they will boycott the event. In a joint statement, they said the new building has no value when the "soul of democracy has been sucked out." The BJP government has called it "a blatant affront to democratic ethos and constitutional values of our great nation."
