Five people lost their lives after part of the roof of the Dargah Sharif Patte Shah collapsed on Friday evening in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area.
The shrine, dedicated to a Muslim saint, is situated within the 16th-century Humayun’s Tomb complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site that also houses several historic religious structures and gardens.
Visuals from the scene showed a small lime-green building surrounding an open courtyard, with one section of the roof reduced to rubble.
Rescue personnel, including police and fire department teams, were seen at the site, which has since been cordoned off.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that 15–20 people, including the imam, were inside the building when the roof — believed to be around 25–30 years old — gave way. The incident has prompted an extensive search and rescue operation to locate any survivors who may still be trapped under the debris.
