Alleged sleaze video prompts TN BJP General Secretary to quit post

Chennai: BJP General Secretary in Tamil Nadu, KT Raghavan, resigned from the party post on Tuesday after a video in which a man with a close resemblance to him having a sleazy conversation with a female party worker was released.

NDTV reports that it could not verify the identity of the person seen in the video, which was posted by Madan Ravichandran, another party functionary, on YouTube.

Denying the allegation, Raghavan tweeted that people of Tamil Nadu know who he was as he has been working for them for 30 years without benefits. Adding that he is resigning his post after having a discussion with the state president Annamalai. Denying all the allegations against him, he hopes that justice will prevail.

Meanwhile, Madan Ravichandran, who released the video said that his team has audio clips and video footage of 15 other leaders and plan to release in course of time.

He claimed that the sting operation was to cleanse the party of individuals who are involved in sexual exploitation and forcible sex, amidst allegations maligning the party.

BJP state president, K Annamalai, commented that Ravichandran's deed was unacceptable and questioned his intention. He said that the party is taking the allegations seriously and an enquiry commission, headed by party state secretary Malarkodi, will be formed. The commission will find the truth and initiate action against those accused. Women members in the party are treated with care respect and love, he said.

Ravichandran and his aid said that they might face both legal and illegal threats. The woman in the video is a district-level leader, they claimed, and they asked for support for the sake of women.
