Ready to support Bihar’s NDA govt if Seemanchal treated justly: Owaisi

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said on Saturday that his party was willing to back the JD(U)-led NDA government in Bihar, but only if the Seemanchal region receives fair treatment. Speaking at a public gathering in the Amour assembly segment of Purnea district, he remarked that successive governments had failed to ensure justice for Seemanchal.

Owaisi criticised Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, alleging that development efforts under his leadership were concentrated mainly in Patna and Rajgir (Nalanda), while the rest of Bihar, especially Seemanchal, remained overlooked. He argued that growth should not be limited to a few select areas.

AIMIM had won five seats in the Muslim-majority Seemanchal belt covering Purnea, Kishanganj, Araria and Katihar in the recent assembly polls. He said the region continued to face severe issues like riverbank erosion, large-scale migration and persistent corruption, and insisted that the government address these concerns, TNIE reported.

Discussing his party’s strategy for its new legislators, Owaisi said he planned to keep close oversight of their work. According to him, AIMIM MLAs would be required to spend two days a week at their constituency offices to hear public complaints. To ensure accountability, he said the MLAs would have to share photos of their interactions along with location details via WhatsApp, a system he indicated would become operational within six months.

Owaisi also said he intended to visit Seemanchal every six months to maintain direct contact with residents.

In the Seemanchal region’s 24 assembly seats, the NDA secured 14, while AIMIM retained the five seats it had won in the 2020 elections.
