Chennai: Actor Rajnikanth announced the dissolution of his outfit Rajini Makkal Mandram (RMM) on Monday and informed him that he has no plans to enter politics, reports The Indian Express.
Rajini said that the forum would now function as Rajini Rasigar Narpani Mandram to carry out welfare activities.
The announcement was made after he met the members of his RMM to discuss its future.
Rajini said that after he announced his decision not to enter politics, the office bearers of the RMM and fans raised questions regarding the future of RMM. He told them his decision to dissolve it.
He said that his decision not to enter politics is due to unforeseen circumstances.
He said that he was a bit occupied lately to meet Makkal Mandram bearers or fans and inform his decision as he was in the US for his health checkup, then his Annathe movie shooting got delayed, and elections also came.
Rajnikanth had announced his plans to enter politics in 2017. It was followed by many rounds of meetings with RMM functionaries. He had expressed his views on political developments in Tamil Nadu since then. He had announced the launch of his party in December 2020 to contest in the assembly polls. But, soon it was announced that his party is not competing in that election, citing his health and pandemic.
He requested his fans to accept his decision to serve people without entering into politics; after that, several RMM functionaries joined other parties.
