Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's OSD Lokesh Sharma resigned after a controversial tweet he sent out. On the surface, this appeared to be an indirect slam on Congress in light of the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
The tweet referred to a strong person being made helpless and a mediocre person being elevated. It was seen as a criticism of Congress leadership.
The officer on special duty to the Rajasthan chief minister submitted his resignation on Saturday night, seeking an apology for his tweet.
He added that he has been active on Twitter since 2010 and has never tweeted beyond party lines. He noted that he never posted a political tweet after taking charge as OSD. He also expressed his regrets for upsetting the party's leadership.
Lokesh Sharma became the OSD after Gehlot became the Chief Minister in 2018. Before that, he acted as social media manager to the senior Congress leader.
The Delhi police had registered a case against Sharma in March on Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat's complaint.
