Rail traffic chart shows track details of trains moments before accident: report

New Delhi: The images of three trains lying twisted after the accident in Odisha's Balasore haunted most Indians overnight.

The nation is looking for reasons for the fatal accident that killed at least killed 288, leaving several hundred injured.

One report in the morning showed the map of the three trains’ course in tracks moments before they collided.

The report by NDTV claims that Indian Railway’s train tracking system could throw some light into the accident.

The diagram or yard layout which is used to track trains on course gives the details of the route on which the trains were plying.

The Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express was coming on what is marked as ‘UP line’ which is in the middle of the diagram.

The Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express was crossing on the other line marked as "DN main".

The report cited sources saying that some coaches of the Coromandel Express derailed, hitting the goods train in the nearby tracks with some of them falling on ‘ DN main’ line.

Making matters worse, afterwards the Bengaluru-Howrah train rammed into the derailed coaches of the Coromandel Express.

However, experts wonder whether Coromandel Express may have hit the goods train head on inside ‘ loop line’.

Because, the visuals of the Coromandel Express lying telescoped on top of the goods train indicate a direct hit.

Authorities reportedly said that all aspects of the accident will be investigated including mechanical error, sabotage and potential human lapse as well.
