Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi announced that the party would provide direct cash transfers of Rs 1 lakh to each woman in a poor family and implement reservations in Union government jobs for them.
“Our guarantees are not like what the Modi government promises and fails to deliver. We will not conduct any survey, we will directly deposit Rs 1 lakh annually in the bank accounts of poor women… It will be called the Mahalakshmi Guarantee”, he said while speaking at a Women's Rights and Justice Meeting in Dhule, Maharashtra, on Wednesday, March 13.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge stated in a post on X that the party has announced the "Nari Nyay" guarantee, which will establish a new agenda for the women of the nation.
Here are the five promises Congress has made under Nari Nyay during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on Wednesday afternoon:
• Mahalakshmi guarentee: An annual payment of one lakh rupees to a woman from a low-income family.
• “Aadhi aabaadi, poora haq (Half the population, full rights): Half of the seats in the new central government recruitment will be set aside for women.
• “Shakti ka Samman” guarantee : The central government will double its contribution to the monthly wages of women who work in Asha, Anganwadi, and Mid-Day Meal programs.
• “Adhikar Maitri” guarentee: Each Panchayat will appoint a rights advocate who will inform women of their legal rights and support them in enforcing them.
•“Savitri Bai Phule Hostels” guarantee: With at least one hostel in every district, the national government will double the number of hostels for working women in the nation.
Rahul Gandhi said that the party's "Five Guarantees for Women" will bring prosperity to half of the country's population.
Earlier, the Congress had unveiled 'Yuva Nyay' its five pledges aimed at attracting young voters and farmers ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Senior party leaders like AICC General Secretary Ramesh Chennithala, AICC Secretary Sonal Patel, state President Nana Patole, Congress Legislature Party Leader Balasaheb Thorat, state Mahila Congress chief Sandhya Savvalakhe, and others were present.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered Maharashtra on Tuesday, March 12, at Nandurbar. It will then travel through Dhule, Nashik, and Mumbai by the weekend, where it will end at the historic Chaityabhoomi in Dadar.
