Rahul carries Chinese Constitution to campaigns: Himanta Sarma claims

New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sharma claimed on Friday that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been displaying the Chinese Constitution instead of India's. He pointed out that the colour of what Rahul was carrying was deep red, which is the colour of the Chinese Constitution.

"The original copy of the Constitution of India has a blue cover. The original Chinese Constitution has a red cover. Does Rahul carry a Chinese Constitution? We will need to verify," the controversial BJP leader posted on X. He shared a picture of the Indian Constitution, which has blue binding and a picture of Rahul in which the Congress leader is carrying a red document.

However, many social media users responded that the red-bound Constitution is a coat pocket edition, which has been presented to the top Indian leaders. The copy has been presented to the president, prime minister, and the union home minister, as netizens explained.

However, despite the explanations and being called out for the misleading post, the Assam CM stood fast in his allegation in a post on Saturday.

"Rahul is displaying a red Chinese constitution to the people attending his meetings. Our Constitution, in blue, includes a chapter called the Directive Principles of State Policy, which makes it a sacred duty to enact a Uniform Civil Code in our country; Rahul is now opposing this.

That's why I am sure that the Constitution in his hand must be a Chinese one", he posted on Saturday.

Congress, however, responded that the Constitution has many colours, but the contents inside are the same. The party don't read the colour but what is inside since colour does not endorse any purpose.
