Punjab professor with PhD, 4 master’s degrees sells vegetables

Chandigarh: A former contractual professor at the Punjabi University in Patiala is selling vegetables for a living.

Dr. Sandeep Singh with four Master’s degrees taught at the university’s law department for 11 years before quitting.

Singh left the job to take up the role of a vegetable vendor following salary cut and irregular pay, NDTV reported.

The 39-year-old, who has post-graduation in Punjabi, journalism and political science alongside a PhD, is still pursuing studies, according to the report.

‘I had to leave the job because I didn't use to get my salary on time and there was frequent pay cut. It had become difficult for me to make ends meet with that job. That's why I switched to selling vegetables for the survival of me and my family,’ he was quoted as saying.

Pushing the vegetable cart with a board saying "PhD Sabzi Wala", he goes home to home selling vegetables.

After the day’s work, he gets back home only to immerse again in his studies.

Dr. Sandeep Singh says that he earns more money at the new job than he made as a professor.

He has plans to open a tuition centre someday by saving up money from selling vegetables.
