Punjab Police gets 7-day remand of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in Sidhu Moose Wala murder case

Mansa, Punjab: Punjab Police on Wednesday presented gangster Lawrence Bishnoi before Chief Judicial Magistrate in Mansa court in connection with the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case. The court has remanded him to seven-day police custody in Punjab.

This comes after Delhi's Patiala House Court on June 14, legally authorized Punjab Police to arrest Lawrence Bishnoi in connection with the murder of Moose Wala, as well as to grant Punjab Police's transit plea.

Punjab Police had submitted in the court that  Bishnoi is a key conspirator of the singer's murder while seeking the gangster's transit remand saying that his custodial interrogation is necessary.

Advocate Vishal Chopra appearing for Lawrence Bishnoi had opposed the Punjab Police application and said that there is a security threat. There is apprehension that Lawrence Bishnoi may be "eliminated" if transit remand is granted.

Punjab Police had further submitted that during the investigation of the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case, the confession statements of the arrested accused were recorded wherein it was clearly pointed out that  Bishnoi had tasked the co-accused to carry out the "planned killing" of Moose Wala.

Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jawaharke village of Punjab's Mansa district on May 29. The incident took place a day after his security was withdrawn by the Punjab police among 424 others.

Notably, the singer had joined the Congress party last year in December ahead of the Assembly elections.
