Priyanka Gandhi welcomes Bhumi Pujan ceremony in Ayodhya; says that Ram temple should become symbol of national unity

New Delhi : Congress breaks silence on Ayodhya event. Priyanka Gandhi , who is the General Secretary of Congres has welcomed the Bhumi Pujan ceremony in Ayodhya which is to be performed on Wednesday to start construction of the Ram temple.

In a statement ahead of the 'bhoomi poojan' of the Ram temple on Wednesday, Priyanka Gandhi said for ages Lord Ram's character had served as a source of unity for the entire Indian sub-continent

Priyanka in her statement said, "On August 5, the programme of Bhumi Pujan is scheduled, this programme with blessings of Lord Ram and his teachings should become a symbol of national unity, brotherhood and cultural amalgamation."

The statement comes in the wake of many leaders in the Congress coming out in support of construction of Ram temple and in the strategy committee meeting held on Thursday last week leaders of UP expressed their views that Congress should support the construction of the temple.

"In Indian subcontinent and in the world Ramayan has put a stamp on every mind and the story of Bhagvan Ram, Sita and name of Ram is a catalyst of connecting humanity," said Priyanka.

"The story of Lord Rama, Mother Sita and Ramayana has been illuminated in our cultural and religious memories for thousands of years, like Prakashunj. Indian Manisha has been inspired by the themes of Ramayana, religion, policy, duty, sacrifice, sublime, love, valor and service. From north to south, east to west, Ramakatha has been expressing itself in many forms. Like the countless forms of Srihari, Ramakatha Harikatha is Ananta," Priyanka said.

Congress spokesperson and Lok Sabha MP Manish Tewari also congratulated the people of the country on the historic occasion.

Last November, the Congress had welcomed the Supreme judgment on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit case and declared that it was in favour of construction of a Ram Temple. But the party has been virtually silent now.

Congress leaders are now trying to claim credit as former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath said that late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi wanted to build the temple.
