Prez Kovind, PM Modi pay floral tributes to Ambedkar on his birth anniversary

New Delhi: On the occasion of Dr BR Ambedkar's 131st birth anniversary, President Ram Nath Kovind, and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on April 14 paid tribute to him in Parliament House Complex.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla along with several other senior dignitaries were present on the occasion and also paid floral tribute to the statue of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar.

Paying tributes to Dr B. R. Ambedkar, Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla has written on his Facebook page that Baba Saheb's entire life was devoted to the progress of the country and upliftment of the downtrodden and marginalized sections of the society. Dr. Ambedkar emerged in Indian politics and society at a time when humanity was suffering from discrimination. He gave us a great Constitution based on the ideals of liberty, equality, justice and fraternity. He has given us an invaluable message to keep the nation above caste, creed and party ideology.

Several union Ministers; Members of Parliament and former Members of Parliament also paid floral tributes at the portrait of Dr B. R. Ambedkar in the Central Hall of Parliament House.

Secretary, General, Lok Sabha, Shri Utpal Kumar and Secretary, General, Rajya Sabha Sabha, Shri P.C. Mody, also paid floral tributes.

The portrait of Dr B. R. Ambedkar was unveiled in the Central Hall of Parliament House by the then Prime Minister, Shri Vishwanath Pratap Singh, on 12 April 1990.
