Porn clips disrupt Delhi High Court Chief Justice’s virtual hearings twice

Virtual court proceedings before the Chief Justice’s bench of the Delhi High Court were disrupted twice on Wednesday after obscene content was played during hearings conducted through video conferencing.

According to reports, an unidentified individual gained access to the virtual hearing session and began screen-sharing explicit material while the bench was hearing a matter.

Court officials immediately halted the proceedings and disabled the video conferencing link.

The platform was later restored, but the disruption occurred again when obscene content was shared for a second time during live proceedings. Following the repeated breach, the virtual hearing system was shut down entirely and had not resumed at the time of reporting.

The incident has raised concerns over the security of virtual court hearings, which became widely used after the COVID-19 pandemic. Court authorities are expected to review security measures, including stricter authentication protocols and tighter controls over screen-sharing access.

Similar incidents have been reported in other judicial forums in recent years.

In December 2024, proceedings linked to the National Company Law Tribunal in Mumbai were disrupted after pornographic clips were broadcast on courtroom display systems. Mumbai Police later registered a case under the Information Technology Act and obscenity-related provisions.

In July 2025, a virtual hearing before the Kolkata bench of the National Company Law Tribunal was interrupted after an unidentified person entered the session and shared obscene content. A cybercrime complaint was later filed.

The Delhi High Court’s Electronic Evidence and Video Conferencing Rules, 2025, state that all virtual proceedings are to be treated as judicial proceedings and must maintain the same standards of decorum as physical courtrooms. The rules also prohibit offensive conduct and allow action against participants who violate court protocols.
