"Political scenario demands": RLSP chief on the merger with JD(U)

Patna: The Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP), after its national executive meeting on Sunday, has decided to merge with Bihar's ruling Janata Dal (United), announced the party chief and former Union Minister Upendra Kuswaha.

"The political situation in the country and the state warrants that all like-minded people come together...I have, therefore, decided that our journey shall continue under the leadership of my elder brother Nitish Kumar," he said.

In 2013, he broke with Nitish Kumar and formed his own party, forfeiting the Rajya Sabha seat. Nitish Kumar has now appointed him as the president of the JD(U) parliamentary board.

Kuswaha was made a union minister after the RLSP contested the 2014 Lok Sabha polls with the NDA alliance and secured three seats. He was the Union Minister of State of Human Resource Development until he left the NDA in December 2018.
