Political parties gear up for Gujarat polls 2022, day after ECI issues date

The Gujarat Assembly election dates were issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) a day ago, and since then, political activity in the State has begun to ramp up.

Gujarat's 182 assembly seats will be up for election in two rounds on December 1 and 5, according to the ECI. The votes will be counted on December 8.

Isudan Gadhvi, a former TV journalist and member of the OBC, was named the CM face of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), shortly after the dates for the assembly elections were announced. Gadhvi was selected as the CM face based on public opinion, with 73 per cent of respondents supporting him. Gadhvi serves as the AAP's national general secretary, NIE reported.

AAP would undoubtedly win the Gujarat assembly elections, according to Kejriwal. The list of 118 candidates for the elections has already been made public by AAP. The party is positioned to play a pivotal role in the elections, giving the BJP and the Congress uneasy nights.

In the meantime, former legislator Indranil Rajguru joined the Congress on Friday after reportedly becoming upset at not being chosen as the AAP's chief ministerial candidate. He claimed that the Kejriwal-led party has been operating in the state as the BJP's "B-team."

Additionally, on Friday, Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress party, presided over a meeting of the CEC where a number of candidates for the Gujarat elections were nominated. The party then released its initial list of 43 candidates. Arjun Modhwadiya, a former leader of the Gujarat Congress, is running from Porbandar. Himanshu Patel is running from Gandhinagar South. Hiteshbhai Vora is running from Rajkot South. Sonia Gandhi, the former president of the Congress, joined the meeting virtually while the others were there in person at the AICC headquarters in Delhi.
