Bhopal, Palghar/Maharastra: The Madhya Pradesh Government Railway Police (GRP) informed on Saturday that a 21-year-old woman was allegedly subjected to sexual assault inside a running train's pantry car. Meanwhile, in Maharashtra's Palghar, district police arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly raping a woman multiple times over five months, PTI reported.
The assault in the train happened during the night between Friday and Saturday, inside the pantry of Yeshwantpur (Bengaluru)- Hazrat Nizamuddin (Delhi) Sampark Kranti Express, police said. They added that the suspect had been apprehended from Jhansi station, who had been hiding inside the train. Police said that the survivor had, without authorisation had, entered an AC compartment, but she was asked to board the general compartment by a railway personnel. Instead of taking the general coach, she boarded the pantry car and had the unfortunate experience. She had detrained at Bhopal and approached the GRP.
After stopping for half an hour, the train moved while the police interrogated some of the vendors, he said.
GRP has questioned vendors, and the suspect was caught the next morning after the survivors briefed her ordeal. A case has been registered, and further investigation is going on, GRP said. The woman was reportedly mentally disturbed.
In the Maharashtra case, the survivor had a mental health condition. She was found pregnant and the violence she was enduring came to the limelight. She, a resident in the Kev area in Vikramgad, had told her mother that the arrested man, also from her village, used to sexually assault her over the last five months, police informed. The accused has been arrested under IPC section 376 and other provisions, police added.
