New Delhi: Protesting farmers will begin marching to Delhi today to convey their different demands to the central government. The statement has spurred the police to beef up security at the Punjab and Haryana borders.
On March 3, the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), the two umbrella bodies organising the farmers' protests, issued a call to farmers across the country to gather in the national capital today, NDTV reported.
They also called for a four-hour nationwide "rail roko" next week in support of their several demands, including that the Centre provide a formal guarantee of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agriculture.
The protesting farmers have remained at the Shambhu and Khanauri border crossings between Punjab and Haryana since their "Delhi Chalo" march was halted by police officers on February 13.
While farmers from Punjab and Haryana will continue their agitation at the Shambhu and Khanauri border crossings, farmers and farm labourers from other states have been asked to travel to Delhi today.
