Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh): The Uttar Pradesh Police reportedly asked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minority leader Nazia Elahi not to spread misleading allegations after she claimed that individuals from the Muslim community attacked her on her way to the Maha Kumbh Mela.
Nazia Elahi in a video on social media on Monday said that she left for Ganga Snan at Maha Kumbh after attending a meeting in Delhi when a few individuals followed her as she reached Etah.
She claimed people following her crashed into her car, adding that the incident led to YouTuber Priya Chaturvedi and a young girl accompanying her sustaining serious injuries, leading to transporting them to the hospital.
Nazia said she injured her hand, claiming herself to be the primary target, adding that Priya got injured when she intervened.
However, Kanpur Police in a statement said that the accident occurred after their driver had fallen asleep at the wheel and directed Nazia not to spread misleading claims on social media.
Police reportedly stated that an accident involving a white taxi car had taken place while traveling from Akbarpur to Kanpur on the highway near Anandeshwar Cold Storage in Akbarpur police station area on February 24 at 7:00 AM.
The driver reportedly stated to the local police that he had fallen asleep while driving, leading to the accident.
The driver refused to lodge any complaint despite the police sought a written complaint, according to the statement which added that police arranged for an alternative vehicle for the passengers.
