PM Modi likely to visit Israel in February to strengthen strategic partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Israel in February, a move expected to further strengthen the growing strategic partnership between the two countries, Israel’s Ambassador to India Reuven Azar has indicated.

Azar said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally invited Modi and that preparations are underway to facilitate the visit at the earliest possible opportunity. He did not confirm specific dates, but diplomatic sources said February is being considered, subject to scheduling and security clearances.

The proposed visit would come amid significant geopolitical churn in West Asia and reflects the deepening convergence between India and Israel across defence, security, technology, trade, and innovation. It would also build on recent high-level exchanges, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal having visited Israel in recent months.

India and Israel have steadily expanded their ties over the past decade, with defence and security cooperation forming a central pillar of the relationship. Israel is among India’s key defence technology partners, supplying systems including missiles, drones, and air defence platforms. Cooperation has also widened to cybersecurity, space, and innovation.

Economic engagement has grown alongside strategic ties, with ongoing negotiations on a free trade agreement and collaboration in start-ups, artificial intelligence, agriculture, water management, and clean technologies.

Modi last visited Israel in 2017, becoming the first Indian prime minister to do so. If the February visit takes place, it is expected to focus on bilateral cooperation as well as regional and global developments, signalling continued strategic alignment between the two countries.
