Chennai: In Tamil Nadu, a fresh petition has been filed before the Supreme Court of India seeking directions to allow Vijay to form the government. Retired IPS officer Ramasubramani approached the court challenging Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar for refusing to invite Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the single largest party in the Assembly, to stake the claim to power.
The petition argues that the Governor cannot deny TVK an opportunity to prove its majority on the Assembly floor through a trust vote. The development comes amid allegations that constitutional procedures are being manipulated to block Vijay from becoming Chief Minister despite his party emerging as the largest force in the election.
TVK won 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly but fell short of the majority mark of 118. Vijay currently has the backing of 116 MLAs after support from the [Indian National Congress](https://www.inc.in?utm_source=chatgpt.com) and the state units of Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist). After hours of negotiations, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi has reportedly conveyed unofficial support to TVK, with its two MLAs expected to hand over letters of support directly to Vijay.
The political dispute intensified after TTV Dhinakaran accused TVK of fabricating support from an Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam MLA. Dhinakaran alleged that a video purportedly showing MLA Kamaraj signing a support letter was AI-generated and filed a complaint before the Governor.
Meanwhile, Congress has reportedly shifted its five MLAs to a resort amid fears of poaching attempts. The Indian Union Muslim League has reiterated that it will not support TVK. Accusations are also growing that the BJP is using the Governor’s office to delay government formation, while reports suggest longtime rivals DMK and AIADMK are exploring a possible alliance to prevent Vijay from taking power.
