Mumbai: A man in Mumbai approached the Bombay High Court seeking to file an FIR against chief Minister Eknath Shinde and BJP MLA Nitesh Rane over alleged anti-Muslim remarks, India Today reported.
The court decided to hear on Thursday the petition filed by Bandra resident Mohammad Wasi, who also sought directive to take action against those organize "Islamophobic" rallies.
The petition urged authorities to stop the live broadcast of Rane's rallies and speeches against members of the Muslim community.
It emphasizes the importance of the state to get senior police officers to take responsibility and accountability in the event of having given permission to the BJP MLA or any others, who are found to be "habitual Islamophobic", to hold rallies.
The petition sought the High Court to hold Shinde and Rane jointly liable as "hatemonger, hate speaker, Islamophobic", and making them to ‘face disqualification and prosecution as per their oath and violation’.
The petition also urged action against BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla and former party spokesperson Nupur Sharma for allegedly disseminating hateful content against Muslims and Islamophobic posts based on misinformation.
The plea also states that the Centre and states should set guidelines to stop media outlets from broadcasting hateful content and cyber police should remove such material from social media.
