Mumbai: A Varanasi-bound Air India Express flight from Bengaluru faced a security scare on Monday when a passenger approached the cockpit entry area mid-air while looking for the lavatory, the airline said.
According to Air India Express, the passenger even entered the correct passcode, but the captain refused to open the door, fearing a potential hijack. The individual was reportedly travelling with eight other companions.
“We are aware of reports of an incident on one of our flights to Varanasi, where a passenger approached the cockpit entry area while looking for the lavatory. We reaffirm that robust safety and security protocols are in place and were not compromised,” the airline said in a statement.
Upon landing, all nine passengers were handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for further investigation. The matter has been reported to the relevant authorities, and inquiries are ongoing. Further details are awaited.
